It all started after a television interview Rob Ford was giving outside of Toronto city hall, he was confronted by Rocco Rossi to explain the comments he made regarding the Tamil boat fiasco during the August 17th mayoral debate.
The rest of the day had all the other candidates weighing in on Ford’s comments causing Rob Ford to eventually answer questions to the media.
For those living under a rock, Rob Ford stated “We can’t even deal with the 2.5 million people in the city. I think it’s more important that we take care of the people now before we start bringing in more.”
Sensing blood in the water, candidates, believing that this is the turning point in the election, have jumped on this comment in hopes to cut into the lead that Rob Ford has in the polls.
Even Daddy Dalton had to stick his nose where it doesn’t belong and weigh in on the comments stating “I just don’t think its representative of Canadians. I just don’t think its representative of the society that we aspire to build here together”.
The four main remaining mayoral candidates may want to pay attention to the public’s reaction when they attack Ford and the things he says. After the day’s events, radio call in shows, online comments from major newspapers have shown that most voters agree with Ford on this topic.
Ever since the arrival of the Tamil ship, most people privately discuss how nobody wants the refugees here, but mutter under their breath for fear they will be labeled a racist.
What people fail to realize about Rob Ford’s comments is that he wants to help the currently 2.5 million residents in Toronto, no matter what their race, creed, religion or background is. His remarks stem from seeing 60,000 Torontonians still waiting for affordable housing and his concern that bringing a large number of refugees into the city will only cause the system to suffer further.
Watching Rocco Rossi ambush Rob Ford at an interview, having George Smitherman show up in a chicken suit at a Rob Ford appearance, while Ford is running a campaign, all the others are simply running after him.
What these candidates have to realize is the more they snipe at Ford, the more people seem to gravitate to him.
And to think that Daddy Dalton, right now one of the most hated men in the province, could sway public opinion with his comments against Ford is laughable to say the least.
It is somewhat refreshing that a politician speaks his mind echoing the sentiments that many in Toronto are scared to remark for fear of being labeled a racist. Maybe the other candidates need to step back and decide, are they running a campaign, or simply handing Rob Ford the keys to Toronto city hall.

Rob Ford has simply finally shown his true colors. This is consistent. Also he now has a selective memory loss over his problems in Florida not so long ago. Do we really understand what sort of a person this and how can a progressive city even think about someone who has a hate agenda?
