When 33 miners in Chile became trapped August 5th after a collapse of the main shaft, they and the world breathed a sigh of relief that they were alive.
Almost one month after the accident, while 32 are still awaiting their rescue, which could take until Christmas, Yonni Barrios is probably happy where he is knowing the fury that awaits him up above.
While holding vigil for him outside the mine, Yonni Barrios’ wife Marta Salinas heard another woman, Susana Valenzuela, calling out his name. A quick meeting of the two woman discovered that Yonni has been having an affair with another woman for over five years.
Both women have vowed to wait for Yonni despite these revelations and fight for the man they love.
All the while, Yonni sits 2200 metres below awaiting his fate. Having been labeled a hero for using his first aid training to help vaccinate the other miners, he now has become a public joke over the scandal.
Can you imagine the day that the miners are finally rescued; Yonni will help the other men out of the shaft only to try to remain down below. “Thank you for your concern, I’m fine where I am. Please keep sending down the yogurt and cereal please. Some empanadas would be nice too, but I’m not going back up there!”
Who would have thought that a mine disaster was the least of someone’s problems?
