When the election promises start; read between the lines!

A forthcoming announcement by the Ontario Liberals and Daddy Dalton look to reduce hydro rates by 10% starting January 1st. In his planned Thursday economic statement, Dwight (but not so bright) Duncan plans to unveil a plan to reduce the burden that families have with high electricity rates.
The layman would see this announcement and cheer and think “wow, the government is giving back to us”. That would be an example of not reading between the lines.
Having jacked up consumers hydro rates with the introduction of Smart Metres, the Liberals have had a backlash of voter support and have decided that they can make themselves look better by reducing the costs to heat your home…the problem is that they are bribing you with your money.
Imagine a thief taking your wallet then offering to give you a few bucks to help you out of your financial hardship.
When the HST was announced, the Liberals sent cheques to families to offset the initial costs. Again, Daddy Dalton is bribing you with your own money!
When McGuinty and the Liberals took power they screamed loudly about the $5.6 billion dollar deficit left by the Conservatives. Forgetting that Ontario had faced SARS, 9/11, Mad Cow disease, a massive blackout and an outbreak of West Nile they took over and proceeded to double spending to a announced deficit of $18.7 billion.
Granted they had to deal with the largest Global Economic Crisis ever but people forget that they also introduced a Health Premium (tax) and the HST. The Health Premium (tax) brings in $2.4 billion a year and who knows what the HST brings in since the government claims it to be “Revenue Neutral”.
Throw in the increase in revenues from the hydro bill and I shudder to think how high the deficit would be without the huge taxes that McGuinty has imposed on us.
What voters for next year need to see is how much worse things are going to get even if the Liberals are booted from power.
With the introduction of All Day Kindergarten (daycare) in Ontario, there is a little discussed problem of a shortage of Early Childhood Educators (ECE). With new schools being added next year and the year after, there will not be enough ECE teachers to put into the classrooms. The only solution is to staff certified teachers into those slots which will substantially increase the education budget since certified teachers make more than ECE’s.
None of this is a concern for McGuinty because he figures, the next government can deal with the ballooning budget numbers and his legacy of “Daddy Dalton Daycare” will live on despite putting Ontarians into a financial black hole.
When Mike Harris took over for NDP leader Bob Rae, political analysts remarked that Harris will have a monumental task to undo the harm that Rae had done to Ontario…can you imagine what will be said when Daddy Dalton McGuinty leaves?
We will hear an unprecedented amount of “Goodies” from the Liberals over the next 11 months leading up to the election. Just remember; when the government offers you “rebates”, “decreases” or “incentives” for Ontario taxpayers…he is doing it with your money! Read between the lines, not all savings for you are good for you!
