I have another good one. I drove the 407 in the mid nineties a few times to go visit my ailing grandmother up north. I did get one bill back then and paid it. The total was about $200.00. Nothing since then and I have been driving for 16 years since, sticker renewal every year, no problem. No bills, licence under valid address, etc. All of a sudden in 2011, I was told when I went to renew my sticker I owed the 407 over $3,000. I promptly called the 407 and after a long, long wait, I was told it was from a car I had in the mid nineties ( the right car I had at that time ) and that it was from a bill I didn't pay they say. The bill? It was the same $200.00 bill I "did" pay 16 years ago. So much time has went by without a problem, proof of payment is long gone. So, they want to charge me over $3000 interest on a bill from the mid nineties that I already paid. Even if someone didn't pay the bill ( which I did ) as I have an excellent credit rating ( I hope it's not going to be destroyed now )$3000 interest on 200 dollars. It's got to be criminal. What will this amount be in another 16 years? 100,000 dollars on a $200 debt. The point that frustrates me beyond measure is I paid it in the first place.

Something must be done Government of Ontario!!!!!

Regardless of whomever succeeded Miller as the mayor of Toronto would run into deep crap. It's easy to govern a city when the 'right choice' is coinciding with the 'popular choice', but Mayor Ford does not have that same luxury. Toronto essentially has three options:

1) Cut services
2) Raise Taxes
2) Ignore the problem and let the deficit grow.

Miller's choice was to pick option 3, and now Toronto operates on a $700m deficit, with debts totaling at $4.38 billion. I highly doubt Toronto will ever pay off 100% of its debt (unlike Mississauga which has been debt free since 1978) because of the high infrastructure costs, but at the very least Toronto should be running an annual surplus (and for that matter, so should the TTC).

From day 1, Ford made the mistake of setting himself to do the impossible task; that is to satisfy everyone. It was a huge mistake to go out an campaign the impossible: solve the budget problem without any service cuts. The voters are fickle, and I guess they feel that Ford took advantage of them.

[...] Full Day Daycare (Kindergarten) - Ahh the grand-daddy of all election vote buying. McGuinty took a theoretically good idea and in the midst of an economic recession implemented a plan that bought votes for low incomes households by taking their child away for a full day to learn. Originally the goal was to provide education for these students but critics have stated that this is just free daycare for low income households. Even their own Liberal website states that fact; “FDK is saving parents up to $6,500 per child per year in child care costs”. No mention about how making your children learn all day is beneficial, just simply that it will save you money. [...]

Ah Chris, you've proved my point about the young voter. I am far from a baby boomer, I am in fact about 30 some odd years away from retirement. My beliefs come from the fact that I have worked and earned paychecks enough to realize that the NDP socialist agenda will not serve my pocket book very well. You as other young voters fail to get all the facts before you speak and vote. I have young family members that are being taught by high school teachers and university professors the NDP mantra and don't bother to research facts on their own. You assumed that I was some old person who is now become a conservative. I am in fact probably very close to your age, but experienced enough to know what are realistic policies and fairy tale policies.

"This is why democracy is too important to be left up to a voter."

As a young person I love being told that I shouldn't have the right to vote and that even if I do I'm being totally stupid by voting for who I want to instead of who the conservatives tell me to. there's nothing I love more than another baby boomer that received the benefits of our social systems growing up bitching about having to pay for it now. the young are going to have to pay for your retirement and elderly care. don't forget that. You boomers need to give your head a shake and realize that other generations have things to offer as well.
